I happened to be flipping through channels this morning having breakfast and caught an interesting case on Judge Mablean. A catering company was being sued by an unhappy bride because the bride believed that the caterer ruined her wedding dinner.
The bride had requested the caterer to create and serve an all vegan menu of food to her guests.The bride did not inform the guests of the dinner menu and was not going to tell them it was all vegan until after dinner.
Things did not unfold that way at the reception. As soon as guests were seated the questions about the food, allergies and choices started coming in to the staff. The caterer has a responsibility to not serve a guest something they can't eat. The cat was let out of the bag.
Needless to say the bride was not happy that her menu surprise was ruined and the guests were upset with the dinner choices. The bride blamed the caterer, believing that she ruined her wedding and refused to pay her balance of $6000.
The judge did not see it that way. She sided with the caterer and the bride was ordered to pay her balance. The moral is even though it is your wedding day, you have to take into account the needs of your guests. Not everyone likes the same food. Especially eclectic menu items.
